Application

Perennial crops require ongoing plant nutrition.  Alfalfa Green is a slow-release fertilizer that feeds both the crop and soil biology.  It is a durable input that does not leach away.  It will be there for your crop when it needs it.

Broadcast or apply in a band at a rate of 900 – 2200  / acre, and if possible incorporate very lightly into the soil.  Spring applications followed by a post-harvest application is recommended.  Alfalfa Green Advanced (2-4-4-1) may be used when more Phosphorus, Potassium, and Calcium are desired.

Foliar applications are known to give vines a boost of micronutrients that can drastically increase overall plant health.

Results

Alfalfa Green is an effective fertilizer for wine grapes and provides significant benefit to overall vine health.  There is no risk of over-application with Alfalfa Green, nor is there a risk of imparting off-flavours in the fruit.

Alfalfa Green has been beneficial to my vineyard because it increases organic matter, soil fertility, and water holding capacity in my sandy soils.
