Potatoes

The beneficial effect of alfalfa as a preceding crop to potatoes has been seen for generations.  Alfalfa is the original fertilizer for this crop.

Potatoes require high fertility and availability of micronutrients.  Plant vigor and health are priorities with this high value crop that is prone to disease and insect pressure.  This is where Alfalfa Green shines.

With 30+ important nutrients, amino acids, and vitamins, Alfalfa Green delivers a full spectrum nutrition package to potatoes.  Alfalfa Green is also a rich source of Calcium, which is important for fast-growing tubers.

Alfalfa Green is 100% weed-free and does not contain harmful pathogens that may affect crop health.

Application

Alfalfa Green can be broadcast and worked in prior to planting, or it can also be placed in-furrow with seed.  Subsequent applications can be incorporated with hilling to give fast-growing plants a boost.

Alfalfa Green blends well with other fertilizers but works equally well on its own.  When blended with other amendments a rate of 900-1100 lbs per acre is recommended.  Used alone, or to produce a high-yielding crop, application rates of 2200-3300 lbs are recommended.

For maximum Nitrogen select Alfalfa Green 3-0-2.  For added Phosphorus, Potassium, and Calcium select Alfalfa Green Advanced 2-4-4-1.

Results

Potatoes grown with Alfalfa Green exhibit excellent foliar heath and disease resistance due to the broad range of nutrients in every pellet.  Plant size and vigor is also improved due to the growth stimulant Triacontanol, which occurs naturally in alfalfa.

We use the Alfalfa Green pellets as a fertilizer for our potatoes because we are always concerned about the potential for pathogens and disease-causing organisms sometimes present in composted animal manure. Potatoes respond very well to Alfalfa Green.
